HOCKEY

11 March

Our U16A and 1st team boys hockey teams travelled to play hockey against Queens College Boys High School, with the following results:

  • U16A Boys: 1-3 loss
  • 1st team boys: 2-1 win

11 March

Our 1st team hockey girls participated in the Grens Sports Festival. Congratulations on the following results:

  • Merrifield vs Hudson Park: 0-0
  • Merrifield vs Clarendon 2nd team: 4-0 win
  • Merrifield vs Cambridge: 1-0 loss

SOCCER

10 March

Merrifield 1st team soccer lost 4-2 to Dale College

11 March

Merrifield hosted a pre-season netball and soccer festival. Our 1st team soccer boys played the following games:

  • Merrifield vs Selborne: 3-3 draw
  • Merrifield vs Stutterheim: 0-0 draw
  • Merrifield vs Harvest: 0-2 loss
  • Merrifield vs Dale: 0-1 loss

NETBALL

11 March

Merrifield hosted a pre-season netball and soccer tournament. Well done to our 1st team netball team, who produced the following results:

  • Merrifield vs Advance for Life: 22-8
  • Merrifield vs Stutterheim: 10-14
  • Merrifield vs Amitek: 8-3

11 March

Our U13 netball team travelled to Makhanda to participate in the Frans Erasmus Netball & Rugby Tournament. Our girls had a great time and played excellent netball to achieve the following unbeaten results:

  • Merrifield vs DSG: 7 -1
  • Merrifield vs PJ Olivier: 7 -2
  • Merrifield vs Morewag: 7 -3
  • Merrifield vs Port Alfred: 14 -4

SURFING

Congratulations to David Emslie, who finished 4th in the U18 section of the Rip Curl Gromsearch Surfing competition held in Victoria Bay over the weekend.

TENNIS

8 March

College Tennis 1st team girls vs Grens ended in a draw 3-3.

SWIMMING

We are super proud of Merrifield student, Cooper Goliath, for receiving an “All Rounder” badge for U10-U13 swimmers, who make the Top 10 in all 9 swimming events. He also obtained a bronze medal at the Top 8 Swimming Gala held at the Joan Harrison swimming complex.

DEBATING

8 March

Another successful debating afternoon:

  • Merrifield Juniors vs Lilyfontein – Merrifield WON
  • Merrifield Seniors vs Selborne – Merrifield WON

10-12 March

Merrifield’s college debaters travelled to Makhanda to take part in the DSG Debating Festival. We are very proud of our debaters, who achieved the following outstanding results:

  • Merrifield Junior A – placed 1st overall, with Okuhle Nwelende placed 2nd overall and Mbasa Ngqeleni, placed in the top 10.
  • Merrifield Senior team member, Jayda Vries, was named the best speaker overall, with Igor Karbowy, Noah Honey and Allyssa Joseph placed in the top 10.

CHESS

9 March

Merrifield college chess players had an exciting afternoon playing CHESS on our beautiful campus against Port Rex. 11 Games were played, with the following results:

  • Port Rex: 6
  • Merrifield: 4
  • Draw: 1

SPEECH AND DRAMA

We are so proud of 2 of our Grade 12 students, Lilitha Madikizela and Tiri Nhawu for achieving the following outstanding results in the Trinity College of London Speech and Drama Solo Exams:

  • Lilitha Madikizela: Grade 6: 91%
  • Tiri Nhawu: Grade 5: 85%
