SOCCER

24 March

Congratulations to our U9 soccer team, who took on the U9 soccer team from The Centre of Excellence, at Merrifield. Although our boys played their hearts out, The Centre of Excellence emerged victorious, winning 2-0.

25 March

Our college junior soccer team played against Dale, narrowly losing 2-3 to Dale.

HOCKEY

25 March

Our U13 boy’s hockey team played excellent hockey against the U13A Dale hockey team, with Dale winning 0-2.

28 – 30 March

Merrifield’s 1st team boy’s and girl’s hockey teams travelled to Makanda, to participate in the Kingswood 1st team hockey festival. Well done on the following results:

Boys

  • Vs Greame: 4-0 win
  • Vs Kingswood: 1-2 loss
  • Vs York: 4-0 win
  • Vs Oakhill: 3-0 win
  • Vs St Andrews: 1-2 loss

Girls

  • Vs St Dominics: 2-0 win
  • Vs Oakhill: 1-0 win
  • Vs Glenwood house: 0-0 draw
  • Vs Kingswood: 0-3 loss
  • Vs York: 0-3 loss

PADDLING

Congratulations to Grade 8 student, Jamie van der Bergh, for winning the K2, at SA School’s Paddling Sprints.

CHESS

29 March

The 1st round of the Border Chess Trials got underway at Port Rex.

The following students represented Merrifield:

Sandanathi Mtheleli and Neo Jordaan(Grade 10), Dane and Ethan Pearson (Grade 9) Lihlumelo Zwane( Grade 8).

Some of our players ended up ranking very high, with Dane and Ethan Pearson clashing on board no 2 in the final stage of this first tournament. Special mention must be made of Igor Karbowy, who made it to board no 3, after having only played chess for 3 months.
