29 March: The 1st round of the Border Chess Trials got underway at Port Rex.
The following students represented Merrifield:

Some of our players ended up ranking very high, with Dane and Ethan Pearson clashing on board no 2 in the final stage of this first tournament. Special mention must be made of Igor Karbowy, who made it to board no 3, after having only played chess for 3 months
