Merrifield Results

ELFEST

Merrifield College students took part in ELFEST and achieved incredible results. Collectively, 1 Bronze, 17 Silvers, 26 Golds, 19 Gold+ and 8 Gold ++ were achieved among this talented group. Congratulations!

HOCKEY

8 September: Merrifield Prep hockey players took part in a derby vs Selborne at the Merrifield Astro. Results: U9A boys 1-1 draw; U10A boys 5-6 loss; U11A boys 0-0 draw; U13A boys 0-4 loss.

SQUASH

Three Merrifield College squash players have been selected for the Southern Regional IPT Border Schools Squash Teams. Congratulations to Mtha Mboniswa for his selection to the U16 Boys team, Abigail Connock for her selection to the U16 Girls A team, and Kathryn Connock for her selection to the U19 Girls A team. These players will represent Border Schools Squash at the upcoming Southern Regional Inter-Provincial Tournament to be held from 2-4 October in Gqeberha.

GYMNASTICS

Congratulations to Merrifield College gymnasts Lienka Evans and Erin Murphy who have qualified to represent the Eastern Cape at Nationals in Pretoria in October. At a Gqeberha competition over the weekend, in the 13-17 year category, Lienka placed first and Erin placed second. We wish them all the best as they continue to progress in this demanding sport!

DEBATING

8 September: Merrifield College Online Debating results: Seniors vs Hudson Park, Merrifield won. Seniors vs Lilyfontein, Merrifield won. Juniors vs Selborne, Merrifield won.

12 September: Congratulations to the following Merrifield debaters who have took part in a provincial tournament on the weekend. The junior team ranked second, with Georgina Waechter named the best junior speaker of the tournament. Allyssa Joseph, Georgina Waechter and Grace Rance made the Eastern Cape team. The Senior EC team will be announced soon.

NETBALL

9 September: U13 netball vs Clarendon, Merrifield lost 0-12.

SURFING

Congratulations to the following Merrifield surfers who will be representing Buffalo City at the SA Junior Champs 1-5 October in Jeffreys Bay: Zoë Steyn, Adriel Wolmarans, Daniel Emslie, Kyan Lugg, David Emslie, Malachi Wolmarans.

GOLF

11 September: Merrifield College golfer Chloe Buss completed the Nomads SA Girls’ Golf Championship at Magaliespark over the weekend. Out of a field of 84 players, Chloe ended 30th in the B division of the 54-hole competition on an incredibly difficult course. Well done!

SOCCER

11 September: Merrifield College soccer teams took part in a tournament at Hams on Saturday. Results: 1st team: Merrifield vs Dale 0-4 loss, Hawkes 0-1 loss, 0-0 draw with Queens and Selborne 0-3 loss. Second team: Merrifield vs Selborne, loss 0-7, vs Hudson lost 0-3, vs All Stars lost 0-7 and in their final game, lost 0-4 to Dale.
