Our College marimba band returned to the International Marimba and Steelpan Festival which took place in Johannesburg this past weekend.
They took part in the High School Large Ensemble categories and placed FIRST for the “In the Mix” category. In this category, the band needed to add another melodic instrument other than a marimba. The band had a total of 39 members and were complimented by the adjudicators, for keeping such a large ensemble together.
Apart from the competition, the band also enjoyed workshops such as Djembe drumming, steelpan, Hip Hop and Afro fusion, as well as gumboot dancing, which can all be incorporated into their marimba performances.
Congratulations to the Mr Morrings, staff and the amazing band on this incredible achievement.
