The Department of Arts and Culture in conjunction with the Buffalo City Chess Association has also resuscitated the Eastern Cape Schools League which we have had an opportunity to participate in.
Chess at Merrifield continues to flourish, with our club growing year on year. Our players enjoy “Chess in the Park” on a weekly basis, against various schools from the east London area. A major highlight for us as a school, is hosting the 5th and final round of the Border Trials, which always attracts well over 1-00 students from around the province.
