COMMUNITY OUTREACH MEETS HOCKEY

22 April 2026

Merrifield College Hockey Team Champions Animal Welfare Through Pet Pals Partnership

In a powerful show of support for animal welfare, the Merrifield 1st Team Hockey Team will have the Pet Pals logo appearing on the front of the Merrifield College 1st Team Hockey jerseys for the upcoming season. This initiative highlights the school’s commitment to developing socially responsible students, while raising awareness for vulnerable animals in need of care and adoption.

Pet Pals works closely with animal rescue organisations and sanctuaries to promote responsible pet ownership, support adoption drives, and raise funds for the care of abandoned and rescued animals.

Speaking about the initiative, Merrifield’s Executive Head, Dr Guy Hartley, said:

“At Merrifield College we believe education should shape both the mind and the heart. This partnership allows our students to use their platform in sort to support a cause that reflects empathy, responsibility, and service to the community.”

Merrifield College is dedicated to developing well-rounded young leaders through academic excellence, sport, and community engagement. Initiatives such as Pet Pals reflect the school’s commitment to compassion, leadership, and responsible citizenship.

The 1st Team Hockey players have embraced the initiative with enthusiasm, recognising the opportunity to represent a cause larger than the game itself.

The team’s captain, Shaan Packery, added:

“Wearing the Pet Pals logo on our jerseys is something we are incredibly proud of. It reminds us that leadership and teamwork extend beyond the field. Knowing that our sport can help raise awareness for animals that need care and protection makes every match even more meaningful.”

Digitsky, a key partner in the project, helped bring the concept to life, by supporting the branding and production of the jerseys. Digitsky is ensuring that the message of Pet Pals reaches a wider audience through sport.

“Digitsky believes strongly in initiatives that combine innovation with community impact. Supporting Merrifield College and the Pet Pals programme was a natural fit for us, because it empowers young people to stand up for something important, while building awareness in a creative way.”

For the students behind Pet Pals, the partnership is an important step towards expanding the initiative’s reach.

“Animals rely on people to speak for them. Seeing the Pet Pals logo on Merrifield’s 1st Team hockey top, is incredibly special because it shows that our whole community stands behind the message of kindness, adoption, and responsible pet care.”

The partnership will also support future awareness campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and community outreach programmes aimed at assisting local animal sanctuaries.

Through this collaboration, Merrifield College hopes to inspire other schools, organisations, and businesses to work together in support of meaningful community causes.
